The highest form of flattery.

Edward Hopper has such a special place in my list of favourite artists. I discovered American Realism in high school. In the face of conceptual art I was so… relieved to take comfort in the work of Edward Hopper. I love rules-in life, and in art. I should’ve been a judge! A missed calling. I just love Hopper’s unrelenting commitment to realism, colour, and storytelling in a single image. These paintings are a bit of a departure for me because while I did take photo studies of my vizslas and my home to start my initial sketches, the paintings are obviously more set up than I normally do. When I painted Vizsla and the Sun in an Empty room I may have listened to The Weakerthans on repeat for obvious reasons if you are a fellow fan 🙂
